The Culture, Community and the Classroom Showcase

Join us for the Capital Region Culture, Community, and the Classroom Showcase on Saturday November 18th 10 am to Noon at the Key Cultural Center at the Albany Institute for History and Art. The event is free to the public.

This summer eleven artists and eight teachers in school districts around the region participated in workshop with nationally recognized faculty from Local Learning: The National Network for Folk Arts in Education, Followed by classroom visits by artists this fall. On November 18th showcase attendees will experience local artforms and learn from teachers and traditional artists who participated in this national initiative to incorporate diverse cultural arts and knowledge into classrooms.

Represented artforms and districts include Afghan Kite Making and Flying (Schenectady), Chinese Paper Cutting (Berne-Knox-Westerlo), Greek Iconography (Albany), Punjabi/Desi Music (Schenectady), Beekeeping (Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES), Double Dutch (Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake), Son Jarocho (Albany), and Bomba y Plena (Schenectady),
